How we do things
All our dogs are worked on the farm and spend time in the house as family pets and guardians. We know every dog from the toenails upwards and understand the true character of each. This allows us to make the really important breeding decisions regarding temperament when planning our breeding program and we do plan our breeding in great detail! Our aim is to produce the very best we can whilst keeping a small number of dogs, prioritising health and temperament and improving conformation.
Each dog is exercised daily, groomed daily and receives ongoing one to one training. Every dog is allowed free play and free running with other dogs. Good manners are a must here! We live with our dogs.
We adopt a zero tolerance stance to unpredictable behaviour or unprovoked aggression and endeavour to produce dogs of balanced nature and strong nerves that are fit for purpose. All breeding dogs are fully and comprehensively health tested using all available health test schemes together with real work in a real environment. These are our priorities and will never be compromised.
Every puppy that leaves us will have received veterinary health certification after being consistently and thoroughly de-wormed, heart tested, vaccinated and examined for any congenital defects. Full disclosure of the health status of each pup is absolutely guaranteed. All puppies will also have a Volhard Temperament test report carried out by a third party which will predict the future temperament, strengths and weaknesses.
We do everything we can, the rest is up to you!
What we won’t do:
- We will not guarantee any dog as “breeding quality” before maturity or health testing. From 8 weeks to adulthood is a long and perilous road, much can happen and not being clairvoyant in nature, we cannot predict the future!
- We will not guarantee any dog as free from genetic diseases. That every dog carries a minimum 4-7 genetic defects is a scientifically proven fact. Some are minor, some are fatal and many fall between the two. Whilst every possible measure is taken to minimise the risks, in a breed without health monitoring procedures or records, many defects are held in recessive form and cannot be predicted.
- We won’t lie to you.
What we will do:
- We will provide every help and assistance to you at any time during the life of your dog.
- We will be honest, ethical and fair in our dealings with you at all times.
- We will care about your dog and it’s welfare for the duration of its lifetime, not just until the cheque clears!
- We will provide documentation for the registration of your dog with both KUSA and the SABT. Full SABT registration will be done after passing a breed appraisal after the age of 12 months. We encourage you to do so and also to exhibit your dog at KUSA or Kennel Club/FCI shows. We would also strongly encourage any form of work, training or agility program you wish to embark upon with your dog. A busy dog is a happy dog!
Now the good bit – what we expect from you!
We expect you to take great care of your dog and be a responsible dog owner.
We expect you to provide a well fenced garden for your dog to run and play in.
We expect you to spend time with your dog – a lot of time.
We would strongly advise that you train your dog from an early age, engaging the help of a professional if necessary.
